Barry Francis Hamilton passed away on September 29, 2026, in Newmarket, Ontario, at the age of 82. Born in Toronto on April 3, 1944, to Francis John and Doris Hamilton, Barry lived a full life shaped by hard work, determination, and a deep love for his family and friends.
Barry was unmistakably himself, known for his quick wit, playful sense of humour, strong will, and independent spirit. He lived life on his own terms, but he also had a generous heart and never hesitated to help someone out. A loyal friend, Barry cherished the many lifelong friendships he formed over the years.
Barry took pride in a hard day’s work. His extensive career took him from working as a commercial artist at the Toronto Telegram to truck sales, maintenance carpentry at Wonderland, and life on the road as a truck driver. His natural entrepreneurial spirit later led him to own and operate Barry’s Barns and build his own transport company. Barry genuinely enjoyed working and took tremendous pride in every job and venture he undertook. His lifelong love of antique cars and trucks was a passion that brought him great joy.
Barry is survived by his loving spouse of 35 years, Rosemary Johnson of Keswick, Ontario. He will be deeply missed by his children, Nicole Hamilton of Toronto and Amy Hamilton Tindall of Innisfil, and his stepchildren, Sue Schope and her husband, Greg, of Keswick, and Steve Johnson and his wife, Amy, of Keswick; and by his grandchildren, Alyssa Tindall, Tyler Johnson, Abigail Schope, Victoria Schope, and Sarah Johnson, to whom he was lovingly known as Pappy. Barry’s memory will also be treasured by his brother, John Hamilton, John’s late wife, Kathy, and their daughter, Shay, along with his extended family and friends.
In loving memory, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at M.W. Becker Funeral Home, 490 The Queensway South, Keswick. A private family interment will follow at Keswick Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barry’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association
