Leonard Smallwood

It is with great sorrow and deep gratitude for his long and full life, that the family of Leonard announces his passing in St John’s, Newfoundland on September 11, 2025 at age of 93. Dad was born in St John’s on April 7, 1932 to Charles and Isabel (Steele) Smallwood. The eldest child, he grew up in St John’s and later relocated to Ontario where he was employed and retired from CN.

He leaves behind his sister Joan ( Fred - deceased) and his brother David; Children: Judy (Ken), Elaine (Lorne - deceased), Barbara, Leonard (deceased) Janet, Todd ( Lorraine - deceased), Kim (Fern), and Lee (Wendy); Grandchildren: Eric, Robert, Natasha, Kristi, Keenen and Karlene; Great-Grandchildren: Gunnar, Maxx and Nixon plus numerous nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Glenbrook Lodge and their staff for their precious care of our Dad and a special thank you to his friend Martin Gaulton for his kindness and support of Dad during this time.

Dad will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, determination and perseverance. He had many interests and fond memories of traveling throughout Canada and USA, sailing on Georgian Bay, his many adventures and fishing trips with his brother-in-law Fred Sullivan, genealogy, reading and lively conversations on numerous topics.

Cremation has taken place and Dad has requested no formal funeral services.

We love you Dad and may you rest in heavenly peace.
