Mary Elizabeth Wray "Betty"

1934 — October 2, 2023

Mary Elizabeth Suzanne "Betty" Wray (nee Lang), born on June 9, 1934, in Durham, Ontario, passed away peacefully at the Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, Ontario on October 2, 2023, at the age of 89 years.  Betty was a devoted wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother who is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Dennis Patrick Wray (2018). Mourning the loss of their wonderful Mom are Chris (Mary), Karen Newell (Neil Bayley-Hay) and Heather Betts (Mike). She is remembered as a wonderful mother-in-law who loved her children-in-law as if they were her own.   Her warmth and loving care will be missed by her grandchildren; David (Jazzmin), Kristin, Kelly (Josh), Patrick, Nick & Hayden and her great-grandchildren; Hudson, Paisley, Campbell, Penelope, Otis and Easton. Daughter of the late Karl William and Norma Jean Lang (nee Vollett), she is predeceased by her loving brother Robert (Bob) Lang (Beverly).and will be sadly missed by her sister Marlene Preddy (Norm Schofield). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Anyone that knew Betty can attest to her sense of humour, kindness and sweetness. Betty had many jobs during her lifetime including Penguin Books in Newmarket.  But her real passion was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She also enjoyed gardening, reading, ceramics and taking long drives with a Timmie’s in hand and caring for her dogs, Duffy, Shadow, BJ and Finnegan over the years.  Betty was accomplished in both knitting and crocheting and her grandchildren can attest to receiving her many works including her famous crocheted blankets. Betty met the true love of her life Dennis, “on the bus” while Dennis attended the University of Toronto.  She was a former community member of the Baha’i Faith community in both Scarborough and East Gwillimbury.  Betty had a keen interest in photography and her children have hundreds of Betty’s photographs that will provide many memories in the years to come. She loved travelling and was fortunate to spend time with Dennis on Sanibel Island (Florida) soaking up the sun and keeping her feet in the warm sand.  If there is one word that could describe Betty, it is humble.  She took nothing for granted, was always satisfied and appreciative with what life gave her.    A special thanks to daughter Karen, who as she did with Dennis, looked after her many medical appointments. Thanks also to the staff at the Barrieview (3rd Floor), RVH (Integrated Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit) in Barrie, Meagan Ouimet-Reid and James Abraham from Just Like Family Home Care, and Matthews House Hospice who ensured her comfort in her final days. In keeping with Betty’s wishes no service will be held.  Betty’s children have arranged for a Celebration of Life Gathering at the MW Becker Funeral Home, 490 The Queensway South, Keswick, Ontario on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  A short internment will follow at 3:30 pm at the Queensville Cemetery. Betty’s children have requested for those that are considering flowers, perhaps instead making a donation to the Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, Ontario at https://matthews.house/donate-today
