A great man. A good life.
Blair Gillies, a husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, passed away peacefully on December 10th at Margaret Bahen Hospice.
Blair is survived by his wife Susan, and children Janet (Dean), Danny (Allana) and Katie (Matt). Blair was predeceased by his first wife, Lynda, and his eldest daughter, Karen (Craig). He was a proud grandpa to ten grandchildren. In November, he celebrated with his sister Inez's 100th birthday.
Blair was born in Buckingham, Quebec and lived all across Canada in during his 92 years. He moved to Sutton in 1995 when he and Susan Williams joined their families together. He enjoyed a lengthy career as an insurance adjuster specializing in commercial claims before his retirement. Afterwards, he continued to help many people in Sutton who needed assistance with insurance claims.
Blair loved travelling, camping, time with family and friends, and his model trains. He loved a good joke and always had one at the ready. He volunteered for many years with Hospice Georgina and Sutton Fair, and served as Treasurer for his beloved Virginia United Church.
Blair faced his cancer treatments with remarkable grace, offering a smile and words of kindness to the staff and to others battling alongside him.
The family is deeply grateful to the health care professionals for their compassion and unwavering support.
A celebration of Blair's life will be held from 1:00 - 4:00pm Sunday, January 25th, 2026 at Egypt Hall, Georgina. The tributes will begin at 2:00 pm, all are welcome.
